Silverstone CE Primary Academy Governance Committee

For a breakdown of Members and their roles and areas of expertise, and dates of office, please review our Governor Structure document in the side bar,

As a member of the Academy Governance Committee we have the responsibility to challenge and support the strategic direction of the school and ensure high stanards are maintained across all aspects of the school.

Our Academy Governance Committee consists of nine members:

James Bloomfield:

I joined Silverstone CE Primary School in January 2016 and feel extremely privileged to be Headteacher of this wonderful school, overseeing significant change in over the last three years.  After graduating at Bishop Grosseteste College, Lincoln, my teaching career has spanned over 20 years; during which time I have worked in 5 schools before joining Silverstone CE Primary. I am passionate about working with children and making a positive difference to their lives. In addition to my own wealth of experience and knowledge, my aim is to harness the skills and passions from every member of staff as we continue to develop and grow Silverstone CE Primary into a school we can all be extremely proud of.

Carol Tosh:

A native of Scotland, I have been a teacher, Headteacher and School Improvement Advisor all my professional life.  I joined the governing body just as I was about to take early retirement and have tried to use my professional expertise for the good of the schools in Silverstone. I am particularly proud of the fact that I worked with fellow professionals to bring about the building of the new Silverstone CE Primary School.

Education has been my 'reason d'etre' for nearly 50 years and I feel privileged to be part of the wider school team bringing, I hope, empathy and support in the educational challenges faced by the children, parents, staff and my fellow governors.

My own two children attended the local Silverstone schools and have gone on to successful careers based on the foundations laid in Silverstone. They have, in turn, brought into the world 4 lovely grandchildren and now my long-suffering husband has finally realised his dream of being able to take holidays in school term time!

Declaration of Interest: None

Lisa Baldwin:

As a governor with a background in marketing and PR I am able to call on my professional experience to support the school particularly with communications.  After working at a senior marketing level for several large corporations and having spent time working overseas I now run my own company to give me the flexibility to look after my two young sons.  I am passionate about community and playing a part to ensure that all children receive the emotional support and resources they need to thrive at school.

Declaration of Interest: None

Peter Coles:

I am a Foundation Governor and Churchwarden St. Michael’s Church. My background is farming and I have a long association with Silverstone Village. My two sons both attended the Infant and Junior Schools. At that time I was chairman of Silverstone Infant School.

Declaration of Interest: None

Carolyn Lovell:

I have lived in Silverstone for more than 40 years. During this time I have taught at the infant school for 28 years spending many of them as Deputy Headteacher.  I have two grown up daughters who both went through the local state education system and I currently have 2 grandchildren at Sponne School; both enjoyed their primary years in our village schools.  Since my retirement 12 years ago I have had the opportunity to expand my education experience through my Special Education Needs qualification both at Magdalen College School, Brackley and Silverstone UTC.  Working with teenagers has been both interesting and enriching. I also continue to volunteer at the school on a weekly basis, usually in FS2 enabling me to get to know all the new entrants. Through this I am privileged to get to know new families joining our ever expanding community as well as seeing past pupils now coming to our school with their own children. I hope that they are as pleased to see me as I am them! I also sit on School Appeals panels for both Northamptonshire and Milton Keynes which keeps abreast of the changing financial and logistical pressures of providing high quality learning environments and experiences for all our children.

I feel privileged to be a part of the team dedicated to providing the very best education of all our pupils at Silverstone CE Primary School and always endeavour to bring my range of education experience and life skills to this complex task.

Declaration of Interest: Registered as supply teacher at Silverstone CE Primary

Cherie Carruthers:

My professional career in accounting, particularly specialising in government finances, has already given me an insight in to the running of a school. I run my own business and consult for parishes, charities and other community groups. Living in the village my children have, and do, attend the school and I am passionate about the community; forming and driving forward relationships within the community and giving back to where we live. I am privileged to be a governor and am committed to supporting the staff and school set up that enables our children to have the thriving, safe and fun place in which to learn which is then also reflected in the School’s results.

Trevor Ray:

As someone who runs their own training business and as the Senior Steward of Silverstone Methodist Church, I bring a combination of business skills, personal development expertise and links to the Methodist church. I have lived in the area for the past 18 years with all three of my children having gone through the Silverstone schools.

I feel very privileged to be a governor (this being my second stint), particularly in my role as part of the team working on the Christian ethos within the school. It is something that the school has long been proud of – developing rounded individuals with a superb moral compass in addition to their academic skills.

I also have a keen interest in the science curriculum having gained a PhD in Molecular Biology in my early career.
